Red Line Train

• Get off at the Garfield/55th Streetstop.
• Cross the street and take the #55 Bus or X55 EAST towards the lake.
• Get off at Cottage Grove and walk 3 blocks SOUTH towards the hospital, taking a LEFT onto 58th Street (after turning onto 58th Street, you will be passing a parking garage on your RIGHT and the Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine on your LEFT).
• Take a RIGHT onto Maryland Avenue and walk past the Bernard Mitchell Hospital until you reach the Wyler’s Children’s Hospital entrance.
• Ask the security guard at the front desk to direct you to the L Elevator (walk down the hallway to your RIGHT and take a LEFT into the first major hallway; the L Elevator will be immediately on your LEFT).
• Take the elevator to the 4th floor. Turn RIGHT out of the elevator and take another RIGHT to follow the signs for the Clinical Addictions Research Laboratory (CARL) in L-470 for the Social Smoking Moods and Behaviors Study.

Green Line Train

• Get off at the Garfield stop.

• Take the WESTBOUND #171 ( University of Chicago-Hyde Park) bus from 55th and Lake Park Avenue.
• Get off at 58th and Ellis/Main Quad.
• Walk WEST on 58th Street.
• Take a LEFT onto Maryland Avenue and enter the building on your left through the Wyler’s Children’s Hospital entrance.
• Ask the security guard at the front desk to direct you to the L Elevator (walk down the hallway to your RIGHT and take a LEFT into the first major hallway; the L Elevator will be immediately on your LEFT).

CTA #6 Jackson Express Bus (downtown Chicago to Hyde Park)

• Take the SOUTHBOUND bus from State Street in the Loop.
• Get off at 59th Street, walk under the Metra train tracks, and continue WEST for about a mile.
• Turn RIGHT onto Maryland Avenue and enter through the Wyler’s Children’s Hospital entrance.
• Ask the security guard at the front desk to direct you to the L Elevator (walk down the hallway to your RIGHT and take a LEFT into the first major hallway; the L Elevator will be immediately on your LEFT).
• Take the elevator to the 4th floor. Turn RIGHT out of the elevator and take another RIGHT to follow the signs for the Clinical Addictions Research Laboratory (CARL) in L-470 for the Social Smoking Moods and Behaviors Study.

CTA #4 Cottage Grove Bus (Michigan Avenue to Hyde Park)

• Take the SOUTHBOUND bus from Michigan Avenue (or from Cottage Grove if south of the Loop and closer to 35th Street).
• Get off at 58th Street and walk toward Maryland Avenue.
• Take a RIGHT onto Maryland Avenue and walk past the Bernard Mitchell Hospital until you reach the Wyler’s Children’s Hospital entrance.
• Ask the security guard at the front desk to direct you to the L Elevator (walk down the hallway to your RIGHT and take a LEFT into the first major hallway; the L Elevator will be immediately on your LEFT).

#192 University of Chicago Hospitals Express
If you are taking the train into the city, there are additional options available when planning your route from the station to the University of Chicago. The hospital operates a shuttle from both the Northwest Station (NW corner of Clinton and Madison) and Union Station (NW corner of Clinton and Jackson) to the hospital campus between the hours of 6:30am - 9:30am and 3:30pm - 7pm. Standard CTA rates apply. For more information on the shuttle schedule, please visit http://www.uchospitals.edu/pdf/uch_003496.pdf. This shuttle will drop you off in front of the Goldblatt Building. From there:

• Walk WEST on 59th Street until you reach Maryland Avenue.
• Turn RIGHT onto Maryland Avenue and enter through the Wyler’s Children’s Hospital entrance.
• Ask the security guard at the front desk to direct you to the L Elevator (walk down the hallway to your RIGHT and take a LEFT into the first major hallway; the L Elevator will be immediately on your LEFT).

Directions for Driving

NOTE: All participants taking part in the experimental sessions must agree not to drive themselves home. These directions are only to be used for the in-person screening and/or the picking-up and dropping-off of participants for the experimental sessions.

From Lake Shore Drive

• Exit at 57th Street ( Museum of Science and Industry).
• Follow this winding street through 2 lights. After the 2nd light, you will be heading SOUTH.
• About ¼ of a mile after the 2nd light, the road will fork. Veer RIGHT, toward the signs marked Midway Plaisance. You are now heading WEST.
• Continue on the Midway and take a RIGHT onto Ellis Avenue. Take a LEFT onto 59th Street.
• Take a RIGHT onto Maryland Avenue and park in the parking garage on the left-hand side of the street (the entrance is on 58th Street). Don’t forget to bring in your ticket for validation!
• Exit the parking garage and cross Maryland Avenue to enter the hospital through the Wyler’s Children’s Hospital entrance.
• Ask the security guard at the front desk to direct you to the L Elevator (walk down the hallway to your RIGHT and take a LEFT into the first major hallway; the L Elevator will be immediately on your LEFT).
• Take the elevator to the 4th floor. Turn RIGHT out of the elevator and take another RIGHT to follow the signs for the Clinical Addictions Research Laboratory (CARL) in L-470 for the Social Smoking Moods and Behaviors Study.

From the Dan Ryan Expressway (I-94)
NOTE: There will be heavy construction in the area from April 1, 2006 to 2008. Please see http://danryanexpressway.com for the latest construction updates. Due to the potential for long construction delays, we recommend taking an alternate route.

• Exit at Garfield Blvd (Exit 57B).
• Stay in the left lane and take a LEFT onto Garfield Blvd. (you will be heading EAST back over the highway).
• Take Garfield all the way past Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive. Take a SLIGHT RIGHT onto Morgan Drive, which becomes Payne Drive.
• Take the second LEFT available, onto 57th Street. Take 57th Street past Cottage Grove to Maryland Avenue.
• Take a RIGHT onto Maryland Avenue. Park in the parking garage on the right-hand side of the street (the entrance is on 58th Street). Don’t forget to bring in your ticket for validation!

IDOT recommends a combination of South Lake Shore Drive and Stony Island Avenue.

From Lake Shore Drive

• Turn LEFT onto 59th Street.
• Turn RIGHT onto Maryland Avenue. Park in the parking garage on the left-hand side of the street (the entrance is on 58th Street). Don’t forget to bring in your ticket for validation!
• Exit the parking garage and cross Maryland Avenue to enter the hospital through the Wyler’s Children’s Hospital entrance.
• Ask the security guard at the front desk to direct you to the L Elevator (walk down the hallway to your RIGHT and take a LEFT into the first major hallway; the L Elevator will be immediately on your LEFT).

IDOT recommends Ashland Avenue.

From Ashland Avenue

• Take Ashland Avenue to 55th Street. Go EAST on 55th Street, which becomes Garfield Blvd.
• Take a SLIGHT RIGHT onto Morgan Drive, which becomes Payne Drive.
• Take the second LEFT available, onto 57th Street. Take 57th Street past Cottage Grove to Maryland Avenue.
• Take a RIGHT onto Maryland Avenue. Park in the parking garage on the right-hand side of the street (the entrance is on 58th Street). Don’t forget to bring in your ticket for validation!
